A Life Dedicated to the Dharma
Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey is a senior Tibetan Buddhist monk and teacher of the Sakya tradition who has devoted his life to the study, practice and sharing of the Buddha’s teachings. With decades of monastic training and experience, he is known for presenting the profound wisdom of Tibetan Buddhism with warmth, humility and clarity, making authentic Dharma accessible to people from all walks of life.
Based at the Sakya Centre in Dehradun, India, Khenpo teaches students from around the world through meditation, Buddhist philosophy, traditional ceremonies, empowerments and retreats. His teachings combine the depth of the classical Tibetan tradition with practical guidance for modern life, encouraging students to cultivate wisdom, compassion and inner peace.
The Sakya Tradition
Khenpo belongs to the Sakya school, one of the four principal traditions of Tibetan Buddhism. Renowned for its unbroken lineage of scholarship, meditation and Vajrayana practice, the Sakya tradition has preserved the Buddha’s teachings for centuries through direct transmission from teacher to disciple.
As a lineage holder and teacher, Khenpo is dedicated to preserving these precious teachings while making them approachable and meaningful for contemporary practitioners. Whether teaching experienced Buddhists or complete beginners, his emphasis is always on developing genuine compassion, wisdom and ethical living.
Sharing the Buddha’s Teachings
Throughout his years of teaching, Khenpo has guided students in meditation, Buddhist philosophy and Vajrayana practice, helping people deepen both their understanding and personal experience of the Dharma.
His teachings range from introductory meditation and mindfulness to traditional Tibetan Buddhist philosophy, empowerments, prayers and advanced practices within the Sakya lineage. Students appreciate his ability to explain profound subjects in a way that is practical, relatable and firmly rooted in the authentic tradition.
Khenpo regularly travels internationally to offer teachings, retreats and public talks, welcoming people from every background who sincerely wish to learn and practise.
Compassion in Action
For Khenpo, the Dharma extends beyond the meditation cushion. The Buddha’s teachings naturally express themselves through compassion, generosity and service to others.
In 2003, he founded the Tibetan Sakya Trust, a UK registered charity established to relieve poverty, advance education and preserve the teachings and culture of Tibetan Buddhism. Run entirely by volunteers, the Trust supports humanitarian initiatives, educational projects and Buddhist communities in the United Kingdom, India, Nepal and beyond.
From supporting families facing hardship and providing educational opportunities for children to assisting monasteries, nunneries and healthcare initiatives, the Trust reflects Khenpo’s lifelong commitment to benefiting others through compassionate action.
Building Buddhist Communities
Alongside his teaching responsibilities in India, Khenpo has played an important role in establishing Buddhist communities overseas. Together with his brother, the Venerable Khenpo Thubten Nyima, he founded Sakya Thubten Ling in Bournemouth, creating a welcoming centre where people can study, meditate and practise within the authentic Sakya tradition.
His vision has always been to make the Buddha’s teachings accessible while preserving the integrity of the lineage for future generations. Whether through teaching, charitable work or community building, his aspiration remains the same: to help others discover greater wisdom, compassion and lasting inner peace.
Looking Forward
Today, Khenpo Jamyang Lekshey continues to teach internationally, offering guidance through public teachings, meditation retreats, empowerments and traditional Buddhist ceremonies. His work bridges ancient wisdom and modern life, inspiring students to cultivate kindness, mindfulness and insight in service of all beings.
With unwavering dedication to the Dharma, Khenpo’s life’s work is guided by a simple yet profound aspiration: to preserve the precious teachings of the Buddha and to help create a more compassionate and awakened world.
Continue the Journey
Khenpo’s vision extends beyond teaching. Through the Tibetan Sakya Trust, compassionate action is put into practice by supporting education, humanitarian projects and the preservation of Tibetan Buddhism around the world.
