A vision for meditation, retreat and the flourishing of the Dharma

Tibetan Sakya Trust has a vision for the future: to establish a peaceful retreat centre where people can step away from the pressures of everyday life, encounter authentic Buddhist teachings and deepen their practice in an environment dedicated to wisdom and compassion.

Inspired by Green Tara, the embodiment of enlightened compassionate activity, we envision a place where Dharma, meditation, community and compassionate action can flourish together.

The project is at the beginning of its journey. With the support of our community, we hope to explore how this vision can become a lasting centre for the benefit of generations to come.

A Place for Retreat

Retreat offers something increasingly precious: the opportunity to become still.

A future centre could provide a dedicated environment for:

• Meditation retreats
• Buddhist teachings and empowerments
• Personal practice
• Weekend and residential retreats
• Visiting Buddhist teachers
• Study and contemplation
• Periods of silence and reflection

From those encountering meditation for the first time to experienced Buddhist practitioners undertaking deeper retreat, we hope to create a place where practice can flourish.

A Home for the Dharma

At the heart of the centre would be the preservation and transmission of authentic Buddhist teachings.

We envision a permanent place where qualified teachers can teach, students can study and practitioners can come together in spiritual community.

It could provide a home for teachings of the Sakya tradition while welcoming everyone with a sincere interest in meditation, compassion and Buddhist wisdom.

A Place of Peace

The environment itself would be an important part of the vision.

We hope eventually to create a centre surrounded by nature, offering space for quiet contemplation, walking, meditation and retreat away from the distractions of everyday life.

Whether that future home is established in the United Kingdom, the Himalayan region or another suitable location will depend upon careful planning, feasibility and the guidance of the Trust.

What matters most is creating somewhere dedicated to peace, wisdom and compassionate activity.

Growing the Vision Together

A project of this scale will not happen overnight.

It will grow through the generosity, skills and commitment of many people.

Support for this vision can help Tibetan Sakya Trust explore the possibilities for a future retreat centre while continuing to strengthen the charitable and Dharma activities from which that vision can grow.

Over time, this may include feasibility studies, partnerships, fundraising, identifying suitable locations and developing the organisation needed to operate a sustainable retreat centre.
